Blending coriander, cumin, ginger, cardamon, cloves, cinnamon, and crushed bay leaves, a garam masala is birthed to flavour the food of North India. Sitting on dung dried floor this veiled woman prepares her families dinner. Her spotless kitchen the heart of her home is as simple as an open fire, a few pots and jugs. I painted a backdrop of lotus as if growing from the hearth. It is the symbol of rebirth to all that is good and beautiful, to life, and awakening to spiritual reality.
